Katie Van Slyke has decided that Ginny has officially reached a new level of mischief.
The little redheaded youngster apparently gets herself into trouble so often that simply calling her “Ginny” no longer feels sufficient.
According to Katie, bad babies need government names.
Not a registered show name.
Not a fancy breeding name.
Katie means the kind of long first-and-middle-name combination that only comes out when somebody is really in trouble.
And judging by Ginny’s behavior, Katie expects to use it quite often.
Ginny Apparently Needs a Name Made for Scolding
Katie explained that Ginny’s name is spelled G-I-N-N-Y.
The inspiration came partly from her red hair and the fact that it is a “G” year, with Katie making a playful comparison to Ginny Weasley.
But there is one problem.
This Ginny apparently isn’t behaving very sweetly.
Katie repeatedly described her as mischievous, mean and generally determined to keep everyone on their toes.
That is why she wants something longer than Ginny for those moments when a simple nickname just doesn’t have enough authority.
Is Ginny Actually a Jennifer?
The most obvious option Katie considered was Jennifer.
It works naturally as a longer version of Ginny and has exactly the kind of serious tone Katie seems to want when she needs to scold her.
“Jennifer” also rolls off the tongue easily, which is useful when Ginny is doing something she shouldn’t.
But Katie wasn’t ready to settle immediately.
There were other possibilities.
Virginia Is Another Strong Contender
Katie also suggested Virginia.
She admitted that Virginia doesn’t roll off the tongue quite as easily as Jennifer, but she still likes it enough to keep it in consideration.
There’s something appropriately formal about calling a mischievous little red mare “Virginia” when she is causing trouble.
And Ginny certainly seems to provide plenty of opportunities to test it.
What About Genevieve?
Another possibility was Genevieve.
But Katie quickly found a problem with that one.
It sounds too sweet.
Too elegant.
Too pretty.
For a baby Katie describes as a complete little troublemaker, Genevieve might not capture the personality she is trying to match.
Ginny apparently needs something with a little more fire.
Could Regina Inspire the Name?
Katie also mentioned that Ginny’s mother is named Regina, opening another possible direction.
A full name could potentially reference her dam while still giving Ginny an identity of her own.
But even choosing the first name only solves half the problem.
Katie says Ginny needs a middle name too.
Katie Wants Something “Southern and Mean”
This is where the naming challenge gets especially entertaining.
Katie considered traditional middle names such as Lynn and Sue, but she wants something that feels particularly suited to Ginny’s personality.
Her description?
Something Southern and mean.
Something with a little spitfire energy.
Ginny is a redhead, after all, and Katie joked that she embodies the fiery red-mare stereotype “1000 percent.”
So the final name needs to sound like something Katie can shout when Ginny is once again testing boundaries.
Ginny Demonstrates Exactly Why the Name Is Necessary
Katie didn’t have to explain Ginny’s personality entirely through words.
The youngster demonstrated it throughout the video.
Katie said she had already been petting Ginny when the baby continued acting up.
At another point, Ginny backed into her even though Katie wasn’t doing anything to provoke her.
Katie also pointed out bruises on her arms that she blamed on the mischievous youngster.
Fortunately, Ginny doesn’t have teeth yet — something Katie seemed particularly thankful for.
Between the backing, pushing, nipping behavior and general attitude, Ginny was making a convincing argument that a formal scolding name really might be necessary.

Katie has the nickname.
Now she needs the government version.

Or perhaps fans can come up with something even better.
Because if there is one thing Katie seems confident about, it is that Ginny will provide plenty of opportunities to use whatever full name gets chosen.
Ginny May Be Trouble — But She’s Certainly Memorable
Ginny may be mischievous.
She may be fiery.
And Katie may already be asking for prayers.
But that personality is also exactly what makes the youngster so entertaining to follow.
