A Weekend in the Mountains: Our Family Escape

Sometimes the best thing you can do for your family is to get away from the familiar and into the wild. Last month, we packed up the car and headed to the mountains for a long weekend — and it was exactly what we needed.

There’s something about mountain air that clears the mind and opens the heart. The kids ran through meadows, collected pine cones, and asked questions about the stars that we couldn’t fully answer — which led to some of the best conversations we’ve had in months.

Where We Stayed

We rented a small cabin through a local vacation rental service. Nothing fancy — just a fireplace, a porch with a view, and enough space for everyone to breathe. Sometimes simple is exactly right.

What We Did

Hiking, of course — but also just sitting. Reading on the porch. Playing card games by the fire. Cooking simple meals together. The absence of screens and schedules was the greatest luxury of all.

What We Learned

You don’t need to go far or spend a lot to find restoration. You just need to be intentional about stepping away from the ordinary and into something that reminds you why life is beautiful.

We’re already planning our next mountain escape. Where does your family go to recharge?
