Kiki’s Beautiful New Calf Means More Than Anyone First Realized 💔➡️❤️
Seeing Kiki with her healthy newborn was a joyful moment—but Katie Van Slyke still remembers the night Kiki’s first calf couldn’t be saved.
A couple of years earlier, Kiki delivered more than a month prematurely.
Katie stayed awake through the night, feeding the tiny calf and doing everything possible to help it survive. Sadly, despite those efforts, the baby passed away.
That loss remained part of Kiki’s story, making every successful delivery afterward feel especially precious.
Last year, Kiki finally received another opportunity to become a mother. She delivered and raised an adorable heifer named Nikki.
Now Kiki appears to have delivered another healthy little girl.
Following that painful first loss, Katie proudly celebrated Kiki for producing two beautiful, healthy heifer calves in a row.
Interestingly, Kiki wasn’t the cow Katie originally expected to deliver next. When Rebecca called about the new baby, Katie assumed it belonged to Winona, who had been showing signs that made her seem likely to calve.
Then Katie remembered that Kiki had been naturally bred by their herd bull, Justice, earlier in the year. Based on that breeding, Katie believes Justice is the father of the distinctive baldy heifer.
As Katie checked the new mother and baby, another surprise arrived: rain began falling while the sun was still shining.
Although Katie hadn’t expected to get soaked during the pasture visit, the rain brought some good news. Seed had recently been spread across several pastures, so the unexpected shower could help the newly planted areas.
By the end of the update, Katie could celebrate what mattered most:
Three healthy calves had arrived in one day.
Two were confirmed heifers. The third was believed to be a bull, although Katie hadn’t been able to verify that detail completely.
Baby number three provided the perfect ending to an unforgettable day—a beautiful baldy heifer from one of Katie’s favorite cows.
Kiki’s story had come full circle. Katie had shared Kiki’s baby picture only the day before, and now she was watching Kiki care for a precious baby of her own.
After heartbreak, recovery and another successful delivery, Kiki and her striking little heifer gave Katie one more reason to celebrate. 🐮❤️
